💧 Preparation and Etiquette for Eid

Ghusl (ritual bath): Taking a full bath before Eid prayer is strongly recommended Sunnah for both Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.

Wear best clothing: Wearing clean, new, or best available clothing on Eid is Sunnah. The Prophet ﷺ had a special garment he wore on both Eids.

Apply perfume/attar: Applying fragrance (for men) on Eid is Sunnah.

Eid al-Fitr specifically: Eat something sweet — preferably dates — before going to Eid prayer. The Prophet ﷺ would not leave for Eid al-Fitr prayer until he had eaten an odd number of dates.

Eid al-Adha specifically: Do not eat before Eid prayer — wait until after the prayer and eat from the Qurbani (sacrifice) meat. This is the Sunnah specifically for Eid al-Adha.

🕌 How to Perform Eid Prayer: Step by Step

Step 1 — Intention (Niyyah)
Make the internal intention to pray 2 rak'ahs of Eid prayer (Eid al-Fitr or Eid al-Adha) behind the imam, for the sake of Allah.

Step 2 — Opening Takbeer
The imam says "Allahu Akbar" (the opening takbeer), raising both hands to the ears. All followers do the same. This officially begins the prayer.

Step 3 — Additional Takbeers in the First Rak'ah
After the opening takbeer, the imam says 6 additional takbeers (according to the Hanafi school) or 7 additional takbeers (according to Shafi'i, Maliki, and Hanbali schools) before beginning the Quran recitation.
